GUIDED TOUR SAINT JOSEPH’S CAVES

The purpose of our private Guided Tour Saint Joseph’s Caves and Subterranean River is to show you very unique and rare natural landscape which is located not very far from the cities of Valencia and Castellon.

Saint Joseph’s Caves are natural grottoes of astonishing beauty with calm and picturesque subterranean river which is navigable by small rowing boats.  They are located just outside of the small village Vall d´Uixó. The place is lost in the mountains, but still pretty close to the Mediterranean coast. Once arrived to the Caves, we will guide you to the grotto’s entrance, where is still possible to see some cave paintings which are about 15,000 years old. After that we will navigate in small rowing boat officially the longest navigable subterranean river in Europe. Enjoying the peaceful boat riding we will contemplate fanciful forms of the rocks that the action of the water was molding during thousands of years. Dozens of stalactites and stalagmites of different shapes are creating this beautiful natural subterranean landscape. Let enjoy together this peaceful and silent subterranean river boat riding. We are going to pass by boat several grottoes of different shapes and sizes. Some of them are very small and narrow, some others are big enough, but one is called “Cathedral” because its vault is more than 10 meters high. Let also walk few hundred meters of the dry cave enjoying so called “crocodile lake”, “demon’s head” and some other incredible spots.

Optionally, after visiting Saint Joseph’s Caves we can walk up to the top of the hill and visit the Hermitage of the Holy Family, Iberian village of pre-Roman times and enjoy spectacular views of the valley.

We recommend to complete our Guided Tour Saint Joseph’s Caves and Subterranean River with the lunch in one of few restaurants located just at the Caves’ entrance, where you can choose and taste traditional dishes and wines of the local Valencian cuisine.

Duration: 3, 4 or 6 hours. 3 and 4 hours without lunch, 6 hours with lunch.

Starting time: Suggested starting time in the morning is 09:00 or 10:00. However, this is private tour, so we can arrange the meeting time at any moment of the day or evening.

For our private Guided Tour Saint Joseph’s Caves and Subterranean River we need the transportation to be able to move to the Saint Joseph’s Caves and come back. From Valencia as well as from Castellon it is about 50 minutes driving time. Once we arrived to the Caves the tour itself is walking only.

If you have your own transport we can use it for the tour. If not, we can organize the private transport for you. Depends on how big is your groups we can organize following transport options for this guided tour: car, minivan, coach or even a classic car. • 6 hours from Valencia or Castellon (with lunch): Transfer from Valencia or Castellon to Saint Joseph’s Caves = 1 hour. Visiting Saint Joseph’s Caves inside boat riding included = 1 hour. Visiting Hermitage of the Holy Family + Iberian Village = 1 hour. Lunch = 2 hours. Transfer back to Valencia or Castellon = 1 hour. Total time = 6 hours.

Paid entrance tickets: The entrance to the Saint Joseph’s Caves is paid and includes the boat ride. It is very important to book it in advance because the Caves have very limited capacity of admittance. This is specially important for the days when cruise ships are stopping in Valencia or Castellon. If you book this tours with us we will manage the tickets for you in advance and will indicate you available days and hours.
