VALENCIA - CATHEDRAL AND SAINT NICHOLAS CHURCH
Our Guided Tour Valencia Cathedral and Saint Nicholas Church is 2 or 3 hours walking tour with an official tourist guide to the both of the most emblematic Valencian temples from the point of view of their particular history, architecture and artistic decoration. These temples are Metropolitan Cathedral–Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady of Valencia, also known as Saint Mary’s Cathedral and Saint Nicholas of Bari and Saint Peter of Verona Church.
Inside of Cathedral we are going to discover the Holy Chalice or Holy Grail, officially recognized by the Vatican as the Cup used by Jesus Christ during the Last Supper, and exhibited in the Holy Chalice Chapel. We will enjoy majestic Francisco de Goya’s baroque paintings in the Borgia Chapel and rococo decoration of Saint Peter Apostle Chapel. Then we are going to delight ourselves with spectacular Main Chapel of Cathedral covered by the semi-dome fresco painted representing graceful angels musicians painted by Italians master Paolo da San Leocadio and Francesco Pagano. The high altar with twelve beautiful scenes representing Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary was painted by two Leonardo Da Vinci’s collaborators: Fernando Yanez de Almedina and Fernando de los Llanos.
After visiting the Cathedral we are going to walk to the Saint Nicholas of Bary and Saint Peter of Verona Church also known as “Valencian Sistine Chapel”. About 2000 square meters of frescoes are covering walls and ceilings of this small and ancient church. Astonishing work of Spanish masters of painting Antonio Palomino and Dionis Vidal and superb restoration carried out by Spanish Foundation Hortensia Herrero.
