GUADALEST AND ITS HIDDEN TREASURES

Our private Guided Tour Guadalest and its Hidden Treasures is a full day excursion to the one of the most spectacular places located on the Costa Blanca. Also known as The Castle of Guadalest it is a beautiful and very picturesque village located in the interior of the province of Alicante in the middle of the Nispero Valley surrounded by mountains.

Once we have left the highway, the road to Guadalest runs through other several picturesque villages (La Nucia, Polop de la Marina, Callosa de en Sarria). Depending on the season of the year we can see a great variety of the local crops: medlars, oranges and lemons, almonds, pomegranates, avocados, etc.

The old part of the village of Guadalest is hidden behind the rocks of the mountain. We will enter it through the tunnel dug in the limestone rock and our first place to visit is the Manor House of Orduña family. From the Manor House we will access to the Saint Joseph Castle, which is an old fortress that still remembers ancient times of Islamic domination. From the top of the castle we will enjoy impressive views of the Guadalest valley, as well as of the village itself. When we go down from the Castle we will enter the very heart of the old part of Guadalest village with small central square and lot of small bars and shops full of souvenirs. Also here are located several original and unique museums very recommended to visit:

  • Museum of Nativity Scenes and Dollhouses – it’s an unique collection of the artistic work of local artisan Antonio Marco. The collection consists on many different miniature dollhouses, one very big and spectacular nativity scene, as well as many old toys. The building of museum is attached to a limestone rock and part of displayed collection is also embedded directly to the rock.
  • Museum of Microminiatures – it’s absolutely artisanal and handmade collection of very tiny pieces. Whole collection was created by local master Manuel Ussà who is considered one of the best microminiaturists in the world. Most of these works have to be seen through a microscope. Among others you can find: the Statue of Liberty inside the eye of a sewing needle, Francisco de Goya’s Naked Maja painted on the wing of a fly, a flea dressed as a bullfighter and many others.
  • Micro-giant Museum – it is another collection created by the microminiaturist Manuel Ussà, where the pieces are a bit larger than the previous one. Here we can observe his creations through magnifying glasses. Among other pieces we will find: bullring on the head of a pin, the Bible on a hair, a flea on the bicycle and many others.
  • Museum of Salt and Pepper Shakers – an impressive collection of over 20,000 original pieces from all around the world. There are pieces from the year 1800 to the present date.
  • Ethnological Museum – an interesting representation of the way of life of the inhabitants of Guadalest in the past times. It has wide collection of utensils and objects of daily life.
  • Museum of Medieval Torture – a macabre, but at the same time very instructive collection of torture instruments used throughout the History. It covers many centuries of the executioner’s “profession”. Here you can see from the simple sharpened stick and iron masks, to the grill, the chastity belt, the guillotine and the garrote vil.
  • Museum of Historical Motorbikes – a spectacular private collection of more than 100 historical motorbikes in perfect condition of maintenance. Besides motorcycles there are some retro cars, as well as old objects: sewing machines, typewriters, coffee makers, telephones, radios, etc. Attention: this museum is not located in the village of Guadalest itself, although it is relatively close, in the Guadalest Valley about 15 minutes driving.

We recommend to complete our private Guided Tour Guadalest and its Hidden Treasures with lunch in one of the traditional restaurants where you can choose and taste traditional dishes and wines of the local Valencian cuisine. There are several options, some restaurants are within the Guadalest village and others are located in its surroundings.

Accessibility: Our Guided Tour Guadalest and its Hidden Treasures is not suitable for the people with special physical requirements and wheelchair users. The reason is because to access the Old part of Guadalest, where all the historical monuments are located, there are several very steep ascents and descents. In addition, the street pavement is made of stone and it is quite slippery even when is dry and is very slippery when is wet. Unfortunately the transport cannot access the Old part of Guadalest.

Please check our specific selection of Accessible Tours in Valencia, Alicante and Castellon. Please keep in mind that not every tour in our website is accessible for the people with special physical requirements or wheelchair users.

Children: This tour is is perfectly possible to do with children. The only thing to keep in mind is that starting from Valencia is a full-day excursion of at least 8 or more hours.

Suggestions and precautions: this tour is mainly walking, so comfortable cloth and footwear is very advisable. Due to the significant unevenness, we recommend that the footwear have a non-slip sole. In the summer season, do not forget to use the appropriate sun protection and bring a bottle of water to hydrate yourself.
